    Mini Pre–Maxi Quality

I have tried many different ways to preamp a Sunrise PU and by far the Mini Pre produces the most natural acoustic tone. In order, next best is the Grace Designs 101 (at a significantly higher price point and no good really for stage work) and the next after that, the actual Jim Kaufman Sunrise SB preamp. Moreover, I had a question about the product and submitted it over the Schatten website and got great and prompt feedback from the founder/owner/designer of the preamp. How cool is that in this day and age of massive companies and outsourced tech support! And at its price, it also is a killer steal. I am feeding it two signals via its TRS input (non-existent at this price in any other product BTW): Baggs Anthem on tip and Sunrise on the ring. Fantastic to have separate volume control on each channel of the Mini Pre and then the Mini Pre handles the summing of the two signals down to a TS mono output to the rest of my pedalboard. I did not attach belt clip, but rather, added some velcro to the back of the Mini Pre and stuck it on my pedalboard where it takes up minimal space.

    excellent solution

I use this with my Chapman Stick when I need to plug into a guitar amp on the go. Without a pre-amp there’s a big impedance mismatch between the Stick and a guitar amp. I attached it with velcro tape to the backside of the butt end of the Stick and connected it to the Stick with a short stereo cable. Then, I can just plug into a power amp with a mono guitar cable. It doesn’t sound as nice as my setup at home, but it’s a much more portable solution than my other pre-amps that need to be plugged into the wall. Also, this item is NOT offered with guaranteed 2-day Prime shipping, but it arrived just as fast as if it was Prime. I’m very pleased.

This little device is very well thought out and works great. The two different channels make it very versatile for different combos of mic and instruments. Well done Canadians!

    Five Stars

Excellent preamp. I love the two independent gain trim pots.
